AFDSNY SECRETARY-TREASURER JOSEPH P. DESTEFANO IS A CANDIDATE FOR THE STATE ASSEMBLY
The officers of the Association would be remiss if we did not advise you that one of our own, Secretary-Treasurer, Joseph P. DeStefano is a candidate for the open seat in the 3rd Assembly District which covers his home town of Medford, New York. As a fire commissioner, then AFDSNY regional director and now as our Secretary-Treasurer, Mr. DeStefano has made important contributions to our organization.
THe AFDSNY is a not for profit corporation and does not endorse candidates for public office. We cannot endorse Mr. DeStefano. The purpose of this article is to advise you of this important development and because his decision to run for State office is newsworthy. More importantly, as member of the Association you should be aware that one of our statewide officers is running for public office and that if he were to be elected that his office in our Association would be rendered vacant as of January 1, 2019.
One of the hallmarks of our Association has always been to remind our members of the importance of registering to vote and voting in all public elections. Our democracy calls upon all of us to participate in the process. Some of us elect to participate by running for office as you do when you run for elected fire district office. However, we all participate in our great form of government by registering to vote and voting. We endorse voting.
