Fallen Firefighters Memorial at the Empire State Plaza

Today the names of 23 fallen firefighters from across the state were added to the New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, NY which now honors 2,575 individuals who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Ten of those honored were firefighters who died of injuries or sicknesses connected to their work after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in New York City.

NYS Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul said. that "Each of their stories is a testament to the heroism that is part of everyday life for those who answer the call and put on their uniform. We honor their bravery, and the bravery and sacrifice of their families and loved ones,"

The Memorial created in 1998 to honor men and women of the fire service, who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Newly Fallen Firefighters names are added each year.
