GUIDANCE FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES PERSONNEL TO RECEIVE COVID-19 VACCINATION

On December 20, 2020 the New York State Department of Health issued a document entitled,Guidance for Emergency Medical Services Personnel to Receive COVID-19 Vaccination”. This document provides guidance to the fire service with regard to the protocols that will apply to permit emergency medical service providers working in the fire service in paid and volunteer capacities to obtain priority access to the COVID-19 vaccines.

It is important to note that priority is given to actual emergency medical service providers and personnel that will have contact with patients. The priority does not apply to all fire service personnel. We will need to wait for guidance from the Department of Health with regard to vaccine access priority status for remaining paid and volunteer fire service personnel within the next category of essential workers.

Fire districts should consult with their district physician on a plan for COVID-19 vaccination of their personnel that addresses those covered by the guidance and remaining staff.
