With Sadness: Past Director Norman A. Petricca - Region 1

Norman A. Petricca, 83, passed away at Ellis Hospital on Thursday, September 2, 2021, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving children.

After graduating from Scotia High School in 1956, Norm served in the U.S Army at Fort Dix. In 1962 he married the love of his life Charlene Eckerson with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Together they raised their three children and hosted many memorable gatherings at their home with family and friends. In the seventies, Norm managed Glenville Beverage and owned The Corner Store on Eagle Street in Scotia. After a long career at Scotia-Glenville Schools, Norm retired in 2000.

Joining in 1968, Norm was an Honorary Life member of Thomas Corners Fire Department serving in multiple positions including President and Chief. Norm served on the Board of Fire Commissioners and was Chairman of the Board for almost forty years. He served as a Director of Region 1 of the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York and was a 2-time Past President of the Association of Fire Districts Capital Region. The volunteer fire service was truly his lifelong passion. He was a Charter Member of the Scotia-Glenville Elks Lodge 2759 and a Life member of the Guan-Ho-Ha Fish and Game Club. Norm was
a fan of the NY Yankees and the Buffalo Bills. He and his lifelong friend Dick Giannelli were amateur handicappers who bet the chalk at the NYRA circuit. They won their last bet together in the 2021 Alabama Stakes.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Charlene Petricca, parents Anthony and Frances Petricca, and brother David Petricca. Norm is survived by his children Gregg (Teresa) Petricca, Robin (Paul) Farmer and Denise (Steven) Chotkowski, sister Marcia Morrow; grandchildren Chris Chotkowski, Anthony Chotkowski and Amy (Eric) Fogg; and great granddaughter Makenzy Fogg; and several nieces and nephews. Norm will be greatly missed by his family and friends who have shared many special moments with him that will never be forgotten.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday, September 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bekkering - Ellis Funeral Home, 1 Mohawk Avenue, Scotia. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Friday, September 10 at St. Joseph's Church, 231 Second Street, Scotia. Burial will be private. Norm's children would like to thank the staff at Ellis Hospital ICU E2 and A4 floors for their incredible compassion and professionalism displayed during his stay.
