The Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York, a not-for-profit corporation, works to improve the fiscal responsibility, efficiency and effectiveness of the fire district management through education, training and advocacy for commissioners and other fire district officials in the 57 counties outside of the City of New York.

Congratulations Newly Elected Commissioners

The AFDSNY extends our congratulations to all of the newly and incumbent candidates that were elected by their fire districts to serve as Fire Commissioners starting in January 2020.

Now it is the time to think about and plan to attend an approved and required training course whether n a in-person classroom setting or an on-line training program from the comfort of your own home
The NYS requirement is listed below for your reference:

Ref. Chapter IV of Title 2 of the Official Compilation of Codes, Rules and Regulations of the State of New York is amended by adding a new Part 153.

Every fire commissioner who is elected, reelected, appointed or reappointed shall attend and successfully complete an approved training course within two hundred seventy days of taking office on or after January 22, 2007. A fire commissioner may satisfy this requirement by attending and successfully completing course modules offered by different persons or organizations. A fire commissioner receiving documentation evidencing attendance and successful completion of an approved training course or course module shall retain it until the expiration of his or her term of office during which the documentation was issued, or until he or she vacates the office of fire commissioner prior to the expiration of that term, whichever is sooner.

The 2020 in-person instructor lead classroom training schedule has already be established.
